Magampura Handicrafts- Tissamaharama

Located in Hambantota, Magampura Handicrafts is a business founded by Anusha Deepani in 2004. Anusha began this journey after settling down in Weerawila, Hambantota with her husband. With a lifelong passion for crafting, Anusha was inspired by the local artisans in Hambantota who worked with woven grass, Palmyrah and cane. This inspiration led her to start her venture.

The training she received from the National Craft Council and the National Design Center was instrumental to her forward journey. They have been steadfast partners since the inception of Magampura Handicrafts, providing initial training as well as ongoing support to expand her business.

Her product range includes over 35+ traditional and contemporary items, including bags, baskets, coasters, table runners and so much more. With a specific talent for design and pattern creation, Anusha enjoys taking special orders to fit her customers' requirements.

Anusha employs 30 women from the surrounding villages to work from home and craft parts of the products. Moreover, Anusha is a trainer at the National Design Center, the International Development Board and local AG offices. Through her mentorship, many have gained the skills and confidence needed to start their ventures or contribute more effectively to existing ones.

The enterprise prides itself on using the finest raw materials, sourced from across Sri Lanka, including Jaffna, Kalmunai, Polonnaruwa and Hambantota. By sourcing materials locally and from various parts of the island, Anusha ensures she gives back to her country and that her products are authentically Sri Lankan.

At Made by Her, we celebrate Magampura Handicrafts and its founder, Anusha Deepani for their commitment to quality, community, and the preservation of Sri Lankan handicrafts. Check out their products now.
