At Made by Her, we are proud to partner with the Vaigarai Vocational Training School in Vavuniya. Founded officially in 2014, the school carries within its name the profound meaning of ‘New Dawn’, encapsulating the transformative power it holds for its students. However, its origins trace back to 2010, during the aftermath of the Sri Lankan Civil War, when the school's doors opened for the first time under the guiding hands of two visionary Sisters. 

In its early days, the school offered saree work (also known as Aari work) and ribbon work classes, imparting skills to empower war-affected individuals and instill a sense of purpose and resilience. Over the years, the school has evolved into a multifaceted institution with three distinctive sections: Education, Skill Training, and Livelihood. The focus is to impart technical skills and nurture well-rounded individuals capable of making a meaningful impact in their lives and communities. 

Central to their offerings are the life skills classes, meticulously designed to meet NVQ levels 3, 4, and 5 standards. This commitment to quality education reflects the school's dedication to elevating the prospects of the most vulnerable members of society, particularly orphans and those struggling with poverty. One of the school's distinguishing features is its unwavering commitment to providing a compulsory free training course, ensuring that financial constraints never hinder the pursuit of knowledge and empowerment. 

A standout programme that shines brightly within their curriculum is the Bakery course. Operating at the esteemed level of NVQ 3, this course spans a year and incorporates a residential component, followed by six months of job training. Upon successful assessment, students are awarded a coveted NVQ level 4 certificate, a testament to their acquired skills and proficiency. This programme is a source of pride for the Vaigarai Vocational Training School, as it produces Peanut Cookies that contribute to the students' income generation.
