K D Fashion - Ginigathhena

Thushari Priyangika had a knack for creative work from the time she was young. Although she focused mainly on her studies during her school going age, as she grew older, she developed an interest in artistic and fashion centered creations.  After marriage, Thushari had the urge to try venturing into these interests and enrolled herself in many courses that focused on different aspects and fields of fashion. After educating herself in many of those fields, she realized that bag making, and design caught her attention more prominently than others. Thus, the seed was planted to endeavor into her enterprise, K. D Fashions.

Thushari started her business on a small scale, with no training, but succeeded very well. She taught herself the craft of bag design and manufacturing and went forward with her ideas. As time went on, she employed around 6 employees to work alongside her as the demand for their products began to increase.

She has been running this business for a few years now, and recollects increasing tough times for her productions and sales. First the Easter attacks and then COVID-19, she was on the brink of shutting down. But she persevered and used COVID as an opportunity and began the production of masks. That year, masks made the highest sales within her business. She is grateful that she didn’t give up and says it taught her lessons how to face the current economic crisis within the country as well.

Thinking about her goals, she says, alongside expanding and trying to reach international export standards, she also tries to help many people from her village through her enterprise. She talks of how with the current crisis she has been employing as many people as she could, especially those who became unemployed through no fault of their own. She also fondly speaks of how she uses her portions of her profit to assist school going children with financial difficulties, since she believes in them receiving a good education for their own sake and the sake of our country’s future.

Thushari insists that she needs to keep training herself so that she can keep pushing forward with new ideas and keep growing as a business and as a person.
