Sriya Mangalika is a dynamic and spirited woman who, despite being an engineer by profession, pursued her passion for agricultural activities from a young age. Meeting her husband who had his own enterprise only boosted her to apply her passion and acquired knowledge setting up her own enterprise of spice production. With the support and encouragement of her husband, she has been able to venture into many aspects of her enterprise. Supportive of her ideas and endeavors he has encouraged her venture in many aspects.
As a strong independent woman, Sriya believes that all women should have their own income to be truly independent. Her enterprise procures services from many women, employees, and farmers, whom she has taken under her wing, to support and encourage them as well as to provide them with a steady income and make full use of their skills. Her venture has helped many women of that district to maintain a stable lifestyle for themselves as well as for their families.
Through her enterprise Sriya hopes to enhance and highlight the value of pure Ceylon spices, which have been traditionally grown in our lands and communities for eons, and to encourage the utilization of these kinds of authentic herbs and spices in day-to-day life. Therefore, the raw materials required for the manufacturing of the products are all sourced from home gardens and small holder farmers who source their produce naturally, thus avoiding the utilization of agro chemicalized materials. They also assist many small holder farms by utilizing their produce and encouraging the use of eco-wastage as fertilizers for their farmlands.
The harvesting process incorporates correct post harvesting technologies that are handled by her husband and these help to preserve the herbal benefits, taste, aroma and colour of the spices. This also helps maintain the authenticity and value in their spices which are all ISO 22000 quality certified.
A family business with diverse arms ‘Saviru Spices’ is currently working towards acquiring ISO and Organic certifications in the hopes of expanding the business into a social enterprise in the near future.
