Masala Coffee

Elephant Tea was created in 2021, by Dhanushika Kavidi Ranawaka, an entrepreneur who started with just LKR 10,000 and the ability to procure only five kilos of tea. Coming from a financially humble background in Akuressa, Dhanushika compares her experience to that of first-time parents navigating the challenges of raising a child without experience or adequate resources. Initially, she balanced her time between her job as a bank officer and setting up the basics of the business. However, as the demands of the business grew, she had to make the difficult decision of leaving her salaried job. 

Despite these hurdles, Dhanushika prioritised the quality of her products, undertaking numerous experiments and learning from each failure. The persistent efforts paid off as the business was built to a position where she could employ an all-women workforce of 8. Along the way, she had to work additional jobs to fund the venture and gain experience in production and marketing. 

Currently, their product line carries black tea, masala chai tea, green tea and other herbal teas. As a small brand, the business has been able to achieve success through small-scale exports, distributing their products outside the island. Their prime ambition is to offer products that deliver wellness to their customers.
