NK Hand Products - Matale

Based in Matale, NK Products is the brainchild of P. H. Chandrika Kumari since 2012. Rooted in the artisanal traditions passed down through her mother’s side of the family, Chandrika embraced her maternal heritage and transformed it into a modern business.
NK Products offers a range of items including coconut spoons, jewelry boxes and other handicrafts made from Laksha designs.   

The business involves the collaborative efforts of family and community. Four male family members work from the main place of business, while thirteen women from the local community contribute by working from home, skillfully crafting parts of the products. This setup empowers women from her village by providing them with a source of income and preserves the traditional crafts of her family. 

The materials used in NK Products are carefully sourced to maintain authenticity and quality. While the Laksha materials are currently imported, there is a strong ambition to source them locally in the future. The wood and coconut used in the products are locally sourced from villages in Matale, supporting local farmers.
