“We needed to become a dual income household, so I started my enterprise,” said Nahdhiya Ali, the owner of ‘Indoor Gallery’. Nahdiya was always in the business of ladies tailoring after she had learned how to sew while in school. She started her business in 2004 after realising that her family required a dual-income which now included 2 small children. This led to the opening of her business, ‘Indoor Gallery’ which produces linen cushion covers.
She goes on to explain how Made by Her supported her in acquiring machinery for high-speed, good-quality stitching; through the grant provided making her assembly process much faster . She initially found Made by Her on Facebook and applied for the grant. She explains how she went through the process of having her business inspected and was elated when finding out that she would be the recipient of one of the grants, making her dreams of growing her business a reality.
While the current socio-economic and political landscape of Sri Lanka has made it difficult for her to get her raw materials at an affordable price without compromising on the quality, Nahdiya’s business has managed to survive through the harshest of times while also supporting the community by the creation of jobs within her business.
